Antonio Stradivari’s signature violins are timeless masterpieces appreciated all over the world, but the wood that is their main component is now more than 500 years old.
What will become of the unmistakable sound they can emit when physical decay renders them unusable? Cremona’s Dipartimento di Organologia e Beni Musicali, the most prestigious in the world, has convened a panel of international experts to retrace his creative process, uncover the secrets of these grafted works of art and figure out whether and how to reproduce them. Ready to join the team?
Beginning by unveiling the true face of Antonio Stradivari (also shrouded in mystery) hidden around the city of Cremona, through an interactive tour in the International Violin Museum you will learn about the history of the most incredible and versatile musical instrument there is and the secrets of every detail that makes it so special… maybe some of these secret hide some interesting secret.
At the Cremona Violin Museum, you can discover the rich history and living tradition of violin-making, a UNESCO intangible heritage. Here, masterpieces by Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri are displayed in the “Treasure Room” and “Friends of Stradivari” hall, alongside over 700 original drawings, moulds, and tools from Stradivari’s workshop. Modern and contemporary lutherie are also showcased through award-winning instruments from international competitions.
You will then be able to admire from live these timeless masterpieces worth several million dollars, and understand in firts person the reasons they are so special. Inside the workshop of a real violin maker you will touch all the stages and various methods of construction: how Antonio Stradivary was able to innovate it?. Interacting with him you will unveil the secrets of the world’s greatest violin maker and his boundless passion.
In search of strong emotions we will go to the house where the master built his masterpieces, breathe the same air and a great violinist will perform in an exclusive and private performance giving voice to his original Stradivarius! It will be the Dipartimento di Organologia e Beni Musicali that will evaluate whether the panel of experts did a good job and if so will recognize their professionalism by awarding them the coveted certificate of “Antonio Stradivari Ambassador to the World”
The day can only conclude by celebrating with good Italian wine while a professional sommelier will teach the principles of wine tasting. Followed by a dinner where the Italian chef will talk about the origin of his great passion for cooking, explain the recipes preparations and tell how in Italian cuisine the ingredients of the territory are used to enhance the Wine and Food heritage and create unforgettable dishes.
